Hi everyone,
I've been eating junk food this whole week because Next week on the 12th is Ramadan, which means muslim people fast for 1 month. We fast after sunrise and wait until the sunsets to eat. So that means, no water or juice, etc, no gum, no candy, no food of any sort until the sunsets. And since this time it fell into end of summer and beginning of fall, the sun here usually sets around 7:30ish, and rises around 6:30ish. We do this for a month in order to realise what poor people are going through and the money we would spend on food, we keep that and at the end of the month we send money back home to the poor or we give it charity. While I'm doing this fast, I'm going to also work out. Last year I had lost 10lbs and I don't think it was all just water weight. You would think after the sunsets you would eat so much, but your stomach actually shrinks so you don't eat as much. I just eat healthy. So we will see what happens this time.

Emerald,
This is wonderul, you will have to post often to let us know how well you are doing. For some reason I thought it started on the 13th this year so thank you for correcting me. I am sure your exercise routine will not suffer just because you put off eating until after the sun sets.

Hi, Nancy, fasting could start on the 13th, I'm not sure yet, it depends on the moon. Some day 12th and some say 13th. But I think it's the 12th until october 13th. Not sure, but I'll let you know as soon as I find out.

Wow so basically you can eat only after sunset and up till sunrise.
Does not that make you gain weight though...I tot people usually try to eat before PM to avoid gaining weight and eat as much during the AM.
SOrry for the questions it's just I'm quite confused.
Thanks

doublechin, your body does not really care when you eat it only knows how much you eat by the calories you intake they do say it is better to eat in the am because you are more active but in the long run it matter not a lot

I have fasted for Ramadan before and it is hard! I can water fast OK but the nothing at all is tough for me, I only lasted a couple days here and there. I am not muslim, but my ex-husband is - he's from Jordan - and I would participate in everything too. He was much better at it than I was, but of course he's had his whole life to do it, plus Ramadan was in the winter then around Dec.-Jan not early like this year, so sunset came around 4:30 - 5:00. Good luck with it, it's a great thing to do!

Hey doublechin....just want to welcome
you to the forum and wish you good luck. As far as the fasting goes...I can't even imagine how a person can get through that...it was tuff enough doing lent when I was a kid...all those fish frys. Joking aside... I give anyone ...so much credit to be able to adhere to fasting for a whole month much like that...............but maybe if more of us would do something like this...well, it would be a better world...it indeed is a great thing to do............
