Variation of cabbage soup

Has anyone tried using chili seasonsings....like...chile powder and cumin and some HEAT to make a kind of chili type soup...maybe not using the optional V-8 juice and instead using a can of tomato paste? It just might be the tweak one needs for something different..........and exciting.....smiley-eek

Re: Variation of cabbage soup

Brook, I have used chili powder and cumin also a can of diced tomatoes with green chili's for heat.  I never use the v-8..

if you use the tomato paste check the sugar content first I belive it is high

Re: Variation of cabbage soup

Nancy_mrn, It might be high because it's concentrated....but a small 6oz can-sugar content (15g) per can in a 6 qt pot filled to the top diluted with water has actually less than a can of V-8(48 g)...I use paste made out of just tomatoes...no salt or sugar or anything added....I'm gonna give it a try next time as I'm getting tired of the Italian style I have made the last 2 pots............
