Re: Tomatoes

Grill them and have them with a steak? Thats what i will be doing...or maybe you could make a kind of tomato sauce by using chopped tinned tomatoes and adding oregano and other herbs and have that with meat...kinda of like a bologenese (spelling) in the end?

Re: Tomatoes

I'm going to make my regular spaghetti . . . just no noodles.  smiley-sad

1 lb. ground beef (I'll be using venison - deer meat - it's very lean.)
1 chopped onion
1 chopped green bell pepper
4 cloves of garlic, crushed
1 tsp. dried basil leaves
1 tsp. dried oregano leaves
1 Bay Leaf
1 14 oz. can diced tomatoes
1 14 oz. can Hunt's tomato sauce
1 can-full of water
1 small can Hunt's tomato paste
salt & pepper to taste

Brown meat, onions, and bell pepper until veggies are transparent.  Add garlic and spices just before meat is completely browned.  Stir in remaining ingredients making sure to blend the paste in well.  Simmer 30 minutes.  Don't serve over spaghetti noodles.  smiley-mad

I CAN'T WAIT FOR DAY 5 TOMORROW!  smiley-clapping

Re: Tomatoes

I will warn you that most canned tomatoes, sauces, and pastes have added sugar, high fructose corn syrup and/or salt.  I never realized it until I was on this diet.  With that said I doubt it will affect your weight loss too much.  If you want to be strict though they are probably a no no.

I lost 32 pounds in 3 months doing the New Cabbage Soup Diet and have stayed at 124 for the last 3 months eating and exercising sensibly!  You can do it too!
Update I'm now down to 121 and counting.
Update as of 9/12 I'm 120!
After my recent bout of CSD 10/6 I'm 117.6

Re: Tomatoes

smiley-smile Hi amsale1....I use all the products you have used in your spaghetti sauce...yes, maybe some have added sugar, but not most... I have always watched out for that since I used to be a low carber off and on for .........8 years or so.  I would be more concerned with boughten store branded spaghetti sauces, in cans and jars.  You are making yours from scratch and there's less of a chance of sugar.  As far as salt, yeah, doesn't just about everything have salt in it....this is not a salt free diet anyways, and if you want...you can find salt free tomato products.  None of the canned tomatoes, sauce, or paste that I use has any sugar and I haven't had any trouble finding such. We have an Aldi's foodstore here...that's where I get my tomato products. I am going to try the recipe you have posted...it looks delish!  What about serving it over spaghetti squash or zucchini "noodles"?

Re: Tomatoes

Now see the super big grocery store I go to... having added sugar and such is more the norm.  I always have to really search to find without though I have used the only brand Aldi carries.  Thankfully they don't add all of that.

Re: Tomatoes

Yes Sweetjag...I really have not run in to that problem here...although I have shopped at Aldis for probably, oh.. a good 15 years or so...we also have a piggly wiggly store here that I shop quite a bit and their  canned products do not contain sugar as well.  These stores are not the REAL BIG ones...but I am a bargain shopper...so if I can get an off brand or what they sell at Aldis (which carrys their own brand)...that's for me...way cheaper.....I really am not into the big brand names, nor do I use coupons so maybe it's there and I just haven't seen it.........I guess it would be best if members would just check the can label before they buy it...that's what I do with everything I buy smiley-smile

Re: Tomatoes

Day  5 (tomato day) also includes chicken, beef or maybe fish. Here is what I plan to do. I have skinless chicken breast or perhaps I will use Mahi/Mahi (fish)  I wrap either in aluminium foil with onions, peppers, zucchini-and/or-squash then add a little paprika and parsley/sesoning a tad bit of lo-cal italian dressing and a BUNCH of tomato's. Then I leave a little opening at the top and place on the grill. Is very good even when I wasnt on the diet! and a no mess clean up-just through the aluminin foil away! Be sure to put plenty of Tomato's in the foil on top of your meat or otherwise it will dry up and  be  rough to eat! LOL. I am only 1 day strong.Excited!smiley-bounce Good Luck all!

Re: Tomatoes

Something I really enjoy is a kind of tomato/cucumber salad.

chop up tomatoes, cucumber, celery, and some red onion

Add fresh parsley or cilantro if you have it

Season with salt and pepper and add tons of lemon juice.

Its not quite the same with out the balsamic dressing I usually use, but I find it very tasty.  Cant wait for tomato day!

Re: Tomatoes

Hello Everyone!

I'm new to this board and this is day #4 for me (bananas and skim milk).  I actually suprised myself as I have made it through to this day.  The veggies and fruit were no problem but day 4 is a little challenging because I don't have the variety.

I read through some of what to do with the tomatoes as I am not a tomato fan for real. But making it like spaghetti (without the noodles) or chili are great ideas.  Thanks.

I am very impressed because I've tried a lot of diets and supplements and nothing seemed to work.  I can see a difference and the scales show some weight loss!  Yea!

I didn't think you could do this diet for more than one week at a time.  Is this true?  Do you alternate weeks or something.  I'd like to do this another week.  I've been thinking ahead about what I'm going to do when I'm not using the CSD.  I can't wreck what I've started!
