Re: Wine drinkers advine needed!!

LOL deegirl, I am a hugh wine drinker! and gained I would say the majorty of my weight becuase of that!  When you drink alchohol, --wine, beer, gin, rum or vodka...take your pick your body turns that into sugar faster than melting butter on a hot day.  And what is worse it will not let it go!

If you do some research on alcohol and dieting you will be able to see just how your body breaks it down....it is so much worse for you than if you ate 20 chocolate bars at once.

Anyway I can say this -- like I said I am a big wine drinker (an occational pitcher of micro brew).  so I have found I had to cut it out while dieting all together.  When I am done losing weight I will constantly have to watch what I drink and limit myself to one or two glasses one night a week.

As for taste that is strickly up to the individual.. but a good rule of thumb if the bottle has "shoulders" it is a dryer, not as sweet wine--reds and some white.  No shoulders are sweeter -- which is a lot of the white wines

Re: Wine drinkers advine needed!!

I also have a confession!! I love to have a glass of whiskey at night to help mellow me out after my hard day at work. I believe since having the ritual of drinking everyday I've put on about 6lbs.. Not only does the alcohol turn it into sugar but it also retains a lot of water. Although wine is a better choice (calorie wise) than hard liquor and beer.. wine is high in sugar and gives you an awful headache.. at least for me it does. I think just stay away from the alcohol all together when dieting. I've been sober for 3 weeks.. maybe drinking two days out of those 3 weeks and with the cabbage soup diet I lost 3 lbs!!! Good luck to you!! smiley-tongue

Re: Wine drinkers advine needed!!

Well even though I know better the past two nights the wine has called my name and I answered, but it is time to put it away for a few weeks and get back to the business of losing this weight.

Look out late night pickle snacks here I come LOL

Re: Wine drinkers advine needed!!

Hi Deegirl

Well, I have done the rounds myself ha ha-- I used to be a strictly light beer girl then went off beer completely and switched to white wine, then red, and now am into champagne and Baileys (tho not together--yuk!)

All I can say is there is less alcohol in light beer than any of the other alcohols and I definitely used to be thinner when I drank light beer! It's funny because I just decided today!! that I was going to go back to drinking light beer. Unfortunately it's kinda hard to get ahold of here in New Zealand! But I will persist.

Nancy is right tho, if you can, cut it out altogether. That's just not realistic for me, I know that I will drink on the weekends at least one night! In fact, that was my other new rule, only one weekend night and no other time!! That would be a major improvement for me and a realistic goal. I'm hoping with being super vigilant at everything else I will still lose weight!! So bring on the light beer! I may have to go far and wide to find it here.............weird, don't know why Kiwi's aren't into it! (I'm American but have lived here nearly 10 years)

Re: Wine drinkers advine needed!!

After this weekend I have vowed too only one night of wine...I gained back a pound in just three days!

So if you can do without please do and if not...cut back to one day

Re: Wine drinkers advine needed!!

Yes I agree with nancy. if you can stay away from alcohol all together. Even the light beers after a month straight of drinking it the weight will creep up behind you. All this talk about drinks is making me crave my whiskey!!!!
