Picked up weight!!!

Well I just cannot believe this, I started the diet  on 1st Jan and lost 5lbs, I never felt all that wonderful either, terrible gas and headaches but I carried on, then I tried to eat healthy but had two days of set backs with socialising and was up 2lbs so total loss 3lbs and decided instead of waiting the two weeks I would go back on the csd on Fri 19th, today is day 3, I eat so many veges and the soup and I just weighed myself and I am up 5lbs, I even went to a social event last night and drank water!!!!!!! (first time in my life!) so I am just so despondent, it is also cold and I miss wholesome food, in fact last night when I went to bed I felt really cold inside despite the room and house being heated at the normal temperature.  I am getting fatter while everyone else is loosing, ..........
Should I carry on? - maybe it is not for me - I have over 50lbs to lose and at this rate will never be anywhere near my goal....
comments and suggestions would be helpful right now!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Picked up weight!!!

So sorry to hear about that.  I have experienced similar things when trying different diets.  There could be a lot of reasons why you have gained.  As terrible as this sounds, you may just have to take a break from "dieting" altogether for a week or two.  Your metabolism might be really screwed up right now.  Do you think you could just eat reasonably for a couple of weeks - eat enough calories to maintain?  Then when your body starts to burn calories like a "normal" person, you can try this diet again from a clean slate.

Re: Picked up weight!!!

thanks for that, I think it is what I need to do, forget abgout dieting and rather concentrate on eating healthy and being fit,I so wanted a quick fix, I guess most of us do, otherwise we would not be here, good luck to everyone else here, I will post in again from time to time.  One thing that I have taken on board is the soup, I am going to use it at lunch time or when I feel hungry as a low calorie alternative to heading for something heavier, I have frozen quite a few bowls and will keep it in the fridge to snack on, at least I will get my veges that way and fill up on something nutritious!

Re: Picked up weight!!!

Lillia, it just seems that last week wasn't the right time for you to do the diet. I agree that you could try eating well for the next week to let your body get back to normal. Weighing yourself every day doesnt give the right readings as your weight fluctuates so much due to water. I am on day 1 at the moment and am just concentrating on eating lots of what I am allowed, plenty of water and little bits of exercise throughout the day like walking up and down the stairs 10 times - just to keep my metabolism up!
I am concentrating on trying to do positive things rather than on what I am denying myself.

There is a local hypnotist on the television at the moment - Paul McKenna - and his advice is to absolutely eat whatever you want, not to deny yourself or to go on a diet. His advice is to do what slim people do and take regular exercise, eat only when you are hungry and eat very slowly enjoying every mouthful. I think we are all emotional eaters so this year (my 40th year!!!) I finally want to break that habit and start enjoying food properly - not using it as an emotional crutch. I don't want to get to 90 and look back and think why did I waste my life worrying about a couple of stone!!! Since I was 16 I have been dreaming of being really slim and I was never really that fat!! I look back at photos and remember feeling fat but actually I look really well - what a waste of energy.
So why don't you give yourself a break - forget diet - enjoy life - do some exercise - eat a little of what you fancy and when you are ready do your detox even for 5/6 days go into it with a positive attitude.

Wishing you all the best of luck

Re: Picked up weight!!!

Lillia,

I don't want to alarm you but the symptoms you are describing (gaining weight when you are trying to lose and feeling cold) are also syptoms of thyroid disease (I have it too).  There are 2 types of thyroid disease, Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism.  You can Google them on the internet to get the symptoms and decide if you should ask your doctor for the bloodwork necessary to check to see if you have it.  It is a simple blood test and they will tell you within 2 days.

I had Hypothyroidism 4 years ago and weighed 190lbs and once they regulated my thyroid I lost weight quickly and easily with diet and exercise and I got down to 136 when all was said and done.

Anyway, I don't want to scare you like I said but just thought it might be something going on in your body that is making it hard to lose weight.

Good luck!

Re: Picked up weight!!!

Thanks for your messages, I am going to just concentrate on being healthy and getting fitter - I do walk 5k 4 x week but it is not enough now so have joined a ladies gym for circuits.  I agree with you Sinead, when I look back and thought I was fat I was a normal size 14 (UK size) and since I have been dieting I have yo-yo 'ed my weight so badly, I am now at my heaviest at 200lbs  and I think I have stuffed up my metabolism so must get that back on track, so will do just that!  I was depressed yesterday but today started out with boiled egg, wholewheat toast and half a grapefruit and felt a lot better.  I had my thyroid tested a couple of years ago and when I have my annual check-up at end of year will ask again if my weight is being stubborn.  The doctor however did say that every woman who walked into his surgery asks for the test because they think they  have these symptoms so he was not very diplomatic or sympathetic, and because we are on a national health system if I want another test now I have to pay for it myself.  He also said that if I go onto pills for thyroid I will have to take them for the rest of my life so I want to be sure.  I have just turned 50 and I think it is also menapause creeping into the picture.  I will keep in touch and let you guys know how I am doing.I guess there is no quick fix, just sensible eating!  Good luck to everyone else here.
