Just wanted to share my soup "recipe". I started the diet yesterday and my boyfriend (who is NOT on the diet) and I had the soup for dinner. We both had 2nds.
I think the secret is to make sure that there is flavor. I used a pre-made Roasted Red Pepper and Tomatoe soup mix from Trader Joe's for the base instead of the V8 juice and I used an onion/mushroom Lipton Soup mix. I cut the veggies really thick, so they ate like a meal. I used mushrooms, celery, red onion, cauliflower, carrots, cabbage, and frozen peas. I put all of the ingredients into my crock pot and let it cook for 4 hours. I seasoned it with garlic and a pre-mixed Creole seasoning I got at the grocery store. It was thick and wonderful!!
Hope you enjoy!!

You are absolutely right about the peas!! Ooops. Oh well. I guess I'll just eat around them.
Thanks!!

Dear positivethought:
I can't tell you how close I came to throwing some peas in my first batch of soup!
Or how hard it was not to have my normal 3-scoop DULCE-DE-LECHE trough of ice cream for my "after dinner" treat!
...and the VAT of Fruity Pebbles I almost accidentally ate for breakfast!
This was really hard for me the first 3 days (if not for the beloved baked potato on day 2, I know I would have caved!) but I'm on day 5 now and I've lost 6.5 pounds so I am a HAPPY camper!
I hate tomatoes by themselves though and I'm glad I found this Forum because people (like you) have some great ideas!
Thanks again!

I agree that flavour makes a huge difference to the soup
My recipe
Half a cabbage shredded
2 small onions
1 tin of tomatoes with the juice
4tsp of bouillon
1 red pepper
soup was then liquidised when ready

question...this may seem like a stupid question, but I don't cook a whole lot. Where do you find Lipton Soup mix? I looked all over the grocery store for it yesterday, and couldn't find it...so I ended up making my soup w/o it. My soup is still very delicious, but I will probably have to make a 2nd batch before my diet is over. I wouldn't mind adding a twist to my 2nd batch for a slightly different taste, to help me stay on the diet and not get too bored of the soup. How do I find this Lipton Soup mix? (I shopped at Bi-Lo yesterday).

I made a pot of the soup again last nite. However this time it was soooo much better - so I began investigating!!!! Instead of Lipton onion soup,
it was mushroom onion soup mix, and the tomatoes are diced and seasoned and the ingredients listed sugar as the fourth ingredient. So tell me please, did I screw up??
ps. I quit smoking in October, and gained 20#
talk about being pissed!!!!!
but I will lose it again

I didn't use any soup mix. the salt content was out of whack on all of them. I did use a lot of fresh spices that I found at the store.

flashagent007, I didn't have onion soup mix, so I used Knorr vegetable soup mix and it was great. The soup mixes should be in the soup aisle at the supermarket...maybe near the broths?

Almost forgot, I also added worcestshire and a little chili powder.

Thanks! I found it. Thanks so much for your help. I ended up having to make my 2nd pot of soup on the 4th day, because I eat so much.

:)Hi I am new. I just seriously started my diet today.
A couple of months ago, I had made the soup with the V8 juice....after the second day, I could not swallow any more so I stopped the diet. It turned me off..
This time, I have no V8 juice and no other boullion or soup mix because of the high salt content. So far, plain water with the cabbage and vegies seems to be working.
I am going to try some ginger instant drink mix if I get bored or ginger tea..... for my spice.
I will let you know how it is.

i used more of a broth?? is that ok?
i didnt want all the salt of the soup mix either and i was keen on starting this diet and i didnt have any around the house... this is day 1 of the diet!! should i be trying the soup mix the second bathc or no?? also i did not add v8 or tomatoe juice i dont relly like my soup to be so thick so i left this out!! will this also be a problem?
or are you able to move around the recipe a little just as long as you stay within the limits of hat you are supposed to eat?? day 1 not going to step on a scale till day 8.. so hopefully i see it:wacko:

I have also used Taco Seasoning or oriental seasoning to add a variation to the soup. Another idea- Chili powder or Cayenne Pepper for a vegetarian Chili! Zucchini and green beans is another welcome vegie in some of my variations - especially in summer. Somtimes I add different vegies as the days go on. My husband calls this the "soup that grows" or the "7-week soup" (it doesn't REALLY last that long!). It's nice that he keeps his sense of humor through my culinary meanderings! I have added the brown rice to the soup on day seven and eaten it as a "Minnesota hotdish" (Casserole for you southern folk).
I started using this diet in the 70's as "TJ's Miracle Soup diet" and now my daughter uses it as a "cleansing diet" (under a different name). Who would've thought it would crop back up after 30 years?

I think that this is great! All of us are from around the world; with the same weight problems! I will be here everyday looking for the support that I need in the next 7 days. I have did this diet before, but lost interest in it after day 4 and you guessed it, ate and ate and ate; anything.
Good Luck to everyone!
