Will this work for me?

I have read that this diet really helps with craving control. That is my worst issue. I quit smoking about a year ago and now I have a bit of a snacking addicition. At work it's the pretzels and slim jims that they have for sale. At home it's any thing that doesn't smell too funny. or run fast enough. smiley-smile So, given the above salt/fat/carb addictions will this diet be able to bolster my chances of cutting down 20 or more lbs between now and Augest? I am 31yrs, 5'9", and currently weigh in at 196lbs with a 36-38in waist.

Also is it ok to take some form of protein supplement with this diet? Like maybe even a low cal yogert in the morning or some such. I have lost alot of muscle mass as I have gotten older and I have found it harder and harder to put it back on. I would like to try to minimize the loss.

I am still going back through all the messages. Might raise some more questions for me as I go. I do know I am looking for any soup recipe ideas that anyone has. I am not much of a cook, and I would hate to fail because I made it taste bad if it doesn't have to. The only cabbage experience I have is smelling Kimche<sp?> and that wasn't too good.

Thanks

Re: Will this work for me?

Hey Mellow!
If you want to add a low fat yogurt every morning you may want to try "The NEW Cabbage Soup Diet" which does just that.  Check in the 'search' line above, as it has been posted several times.  It basically gives you that option, as well as coffee, tea, sweetner, 1 diet soda a day and 1 TBLS. non fat salad dressigng!   I actually do that but without the yogurt, I have skim milk in my coffee instead.  and yes there are plenty of recipes, flavor and spice is the key.  Check in search for negative calorie foods and there are lots of veggies we forget about that will make it more interesting.

As far as smoking and snacking, this is kind of off the wall, but my husband chews on Cinnamin Sticks!  They take care of the "oral fixation" and cinnamin is good for you.  He doesn't really eat them, they are just always hanging out of his mouth.  They look just like a little cigar.  Some people like lollipops but they don't take care of the diet aspect!

Re: Will this work for me?

Oh Twilight, great tip for quitting smoking!!!  Hubby wants to quit so bad and I promised him we would when I got down to my ideal weight.  (hey, maybe that's why I keep sabatoging my weight loss!  smiley-rolleyes  )  Anyway, my #1 fear is gaining weight from quitting, so thanks for that!

And mellowfellow, good luck to you!  I really don't think the yogurt will do any harm at all!  Lots of people do the "new" CSD and lose weight!

Re: Will this work for me?

i quit smoking 9 months ago and gained 15 pds (as suspected) due to uncontrollable snacking and craving of sugar and salts. people who quit tend to gravitate towards comfort foods as a way of stimulating the brain (which happens when one smokes)

I tried this diet as a way of detoxing my body from all the toxins and lost 8 pounds.  this diet has helped me with my cravings tremendously.  i now make more reasonable healthy choices such as fruit when craving sweets, or celery when craving something crunchy to snack on. snacking now is with ease and dont desire junk food.

im back on this diet again  (gained 4 pounds back in the last two months) which is ok. i will continue to do so until i lose all the weight.

p.s
id leave out the protein supplement....this diet really helps your body to detox and you wouldnt want to interfere with the way the body releases the toxins.

Re: Will this work for me?

Well here I am on Day 1 I woke up to an awful smell. My cabbage soup is done. This does not bode well. I go down stairs to the kitchen and bravely try the horrible smelling concoction. It actually doesn't have much of a taste at all. This I consider to be a good thing as then I will be able to flavor it as I wish for any given meal.

The smell is causing me concern. There is no way I can eat this through out the day at work. My coworkers would kill me. Right now it has only been a few hours and I am starving. Even though as you will see I have been eating a bit.

My CS conssited of
1 medium size head of green cabbage
1/2 lb of green beans
1/2 large yellow onion
1 clove of garlic
1 sweet red bell pepper
1 packet if beef bullion
1 small bag of baby carrots cut in to slices
1 largish can of chopped tomatoes w/ various herbs
Water till it stew like
Cooked in a crock pot on low over night
I will be adding mushrooms to portions

= Blah LOL

I have various seasonings to try and give it some variety per bowl.
Tabasco - my fav
India Select curry powder
Ginger
minced garlic and minced onion

So far today(10am EST)
1/4 cup apple cider vinager.
1 cup of coffee black
1 bowl of CS /w tabasco (not too bad)
1 orange
1 small apple

Re: Will this work for me?

Hello everyone!
My husband is bugging me about the smell of the cabbage in the soup.   I wonder if we can leave it out all together, or substitute lettuce or spinach???  Would it work the same???   The Sacred Heart Diet is basically the same diet, but without the cabbage in the soup.

Yeah just had a bowl and put in some extra tabasco and then some garlic. That shoud keep the stomach busy for awhile. If not, I will add some ginger to my next cup of tea.

Re: Will this work for me?

Isn't the mashed cauliflower the BOMB?!!  I love it!   I use an entire head with curry and garlic and cook it in water with chicken bouillon.  Mash it all up or blend it and it is wonderful!  I actually do the same thing with broccolli and I swear you'd think its Split Pea soup!  (but without the good stuff, like ham!)  It's amazing when you're eating nothing but soup, veggies and fruit, how the weirdest things seem to be such a treat!!
Spagetti Squash, cook it, I do it whole in the oven or split it first (but I'm actually too weak to split it myself) Remove the seeds and when it's done, scrape out the stringy stuff and it is delicious just with salt, pepper and spray "I can't Believe it's not Butter" or you can make a tomato Rague and spoon over it like spagetti,   just cook peppers, onions, mushrooms, and whatever other veggies you may like, zuccini is great, and cook it all in a can of diced tomatoes and season according to your taste, basil, garlic, etc.  Then you have "pretend spagetti"

Also you can have a sweet potato instead of a potato if you're on day 2 but I've skipped it also.

Another swesome squash that tastes like a sweet potato is a butternut squash!  I had one yesterdy for lunch.  Just split it lengthwise and bake for about an hour at 350 degrees or until soft.  Use fake spray butter and salt or splenda or nothing, it is awesome and really tastes like you're cheating or at least eating something more substantial!
Good Luck, you'll do fine!
p.s. are you liking the Apple Cider Vinegar?  I've been doing it all week too!  I don't know if it will do anything or not, but I actually like it!  I bought the unfiltered, healthy type and it makes me feel like I'm doing something good for my body!

It is beyond belief. If this diet does nothing else, it is really helping me find alternatives to those naughty foods. I could seriously go with out having mashed potatoes for a very long time, and I so love mased potatoes.

I might try both. I love red sauce but my GF hates it. She isn't on a diet but the healthier she eats the easier it will be for me.

Can't say I am a fan of sweet potato unless it is cooked with pineapple rings and brown sugar. Yum. Hmm might try the butternut with splenda and pineapple tomorrow. Thanks!

The apple cider vinager is.....too much if I water it down. I drink it straight and it burns, lol. I do worry a bit about whether it is leaching calcium from my teeth or not. There are a couple reason I am drinking it. My GF's grandparents swear by it and they are in their 80's and doing pretty darn good. It is supposed to be good for digestion, and I have had problems with heart burn since I was a teen. Then of course there is the metabolism thing.
