day 5 , so far so good!

I have to thank everyone on this website.  Every time I was discouraged or had a craving for something else the support here kept me on target. I would not have been able to get through the last 4 days without everyones posts and recipes.

The first three days were tough and I was so lethargic.  Day 4 was a real treat for me eating baked bananas in cinnamon.

Ive never been more excited to eat real food on day  5.  I've decided to go for broiled fish and have enjoyed my salmon and tomatoes thoroughly.

A few more days to go....Im not so sure how much Ive lost but Im noticing a differnce in my clothes already.

Re: day 5 , so far so good!

thanks for the kind words.

Just to correct you, salmon is in no way shape or form more fattening than steak, or beef.

Salmon has the same fat content as chicken which is allowed on this diet.

Re: day 5 , so far so good!

Actually:

5 oz - Cooked chicken breast (no skin): 230 calories

Calories from Fat: 21%
Calories from Protein: 79%

5 oz - Cooked salmon: 300 calories

Calories from Fat:: 56%
Calories from Protein: 44%

This obviously depends on several factors, but gives a general idea.

Re: day 5 , so far so good!

i don't really believe your statistics as theres a difference in fat content alone between fresh and farm raised salmon.

it seems you are one of those passive aggressive people who likes rain on a parade.
today is day 5.  i am allowed 10-20 ounces of beef.  substituting fish is a healthier choice in my opinion.

regardless of what you think i will not let your negativity get me down.  i appreciate the support of everyone on this forum and i am looking forward to my day 6 smiley-smile

Re: day 5 , so far so good!

I always have either salmon or tuna on meat days because I love them both and I too believe they are a healthier choice and I really don't like red meat.
The recipe book I got for this diet just says broiled fish is allowed so to me that seems any fish. Mind you I was naughty the last week I did CSD one day I had smoked salmon as I was eating out goodness knows how bad that is! But I don't care I enjoyed it!
It never seems to have affected my weight loss though and I do juggle things as I am on my 6th strict week of this diet since Christmas. I do think a little of what you like especially when it is healthy keeps you on track.
I'm on day 2 and craving protein at the moment.
Good luck to you both

Re: day 5 , so far so good!

thanks sally.  kudos to you.

im glad to hear you prefer fish as well.  i struggled with the decision not to eat meat today. i  guess im a little sensitive as this is my first time doing this diet.

on my day two i ate mushrooms to try to curb that desire for a protein. i tried to pretend it was a protein by the mere consistency of the vegetable.

just out of curiosity , how many wks did you take off in between the 6 weeks you have been on this diet.

i really feel great and notice my desires for sweets and bad junk food have diminished.  im interested in doing this again soon.smiley-clapping

Re: day 5 , so far so good!

I try to have about 2 weeks of careful eating so I don't gain in between each CSD week. This is a very low calorie diet and I don't believe that the odd healthy changes [mind you in the CSD booklet that I got from the health food store as I say it just says broiled fish anyway] will make a lot of difference to be honest, especially if you are planning to do more than a week after a break. However, scoffing a bar of chocolate would be silly! By the way we all get a little sensitive when dieting! well I know I do and it is usually my family that suffer lol!
Mmmm mushrooms I've eaten loads today I love them. My other favourite is aubergine roasted in the oven  using 1 cal spray.
I have to say I feel great from being on this diet and I agree my whole approach when buying foods has changed I check every label for fat, sugar, salt and calorie contents. One of the things I've noticed is that so often the supermarket made up salads you buy can be twice the amount of calories than in a lovely salmon sandwich!

Re: day 5 , so far so good!

While I'm saying salmon is high in fat, I'm not saying it isn't good for you. It's a good source of protein, omega 3 fatty acids and it's low in cholesterol.

BUT salmon IS high in fat. Unless you're eating wild salmon (which I doubt, because 75% of the salmon we buy is farmed salmon) you'll be eating a fish high in fat.

Just google it.

What I'm saying is that if you're following this diet to a T then you can leave it out of your meals for 7 days. The diet doesn't specify alot of things, you just go by common sense.

Anyway, not trying to get anyone down... just presenting some facts.

Re: day 5 , so far so good!

I am on day 5 and opted for chicken.

Its true that Salmon is high in fat but as the diet does not say to exclude salmon i think it wouldn't effect the loss of weight.

But personally i try to avoid salmon when on this diet cause i try to google it as well and it says its high in fat.

Re: day 5 , so far so good!

lol! Great minds think alike! I tried to google it too but got sidetracked by the salmon and salad diet that came up top that looks really good and I thought I'd found a good diet for me to go on then I saw the shellfish on it and I am highly allergic!

I did find out that beef [which was always what was stated on the original diet] has loads more  [nearly twice as many!] calories though than salmon but not chicken that was lower as was tuna [which I love too!]

http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/ is a brilliant site for finding out all the details on food! It is amazing how calories, fat content, protein etc. alter according to makes and supermarkets bought in. In other words some salmon is a lot lower calories than others so I will be getting those ones from now on!

I still justify myself eating it as I am looking forward to it and I don't think it has ever affected my weight loss.

Anyway back to day 3 fruit and veg for me now.

Re: day 5 , so far so good!

wow thanks everyone.

i guess i was craving a bit more fat since ive been working out on this diet. too, and really trying not to consume the most allowed.  i only had 3 bananas which was probably one too many in my case.  i had no energy the first three days, but once i hit my banana and milk day i've been feeling so energized

maybe next time i do this diet ill opt for a leaner fish like tuna or leaner meat like chicken.

today is day 6.  yum.  not really looking forward to tomorrows brown rice day.  need to think up a fun recipe

Re: day 5 , so far so good!

There is no such thing as diet police and any fish is very good for you and if you like it eat it I say! Remember it is your diet not anyone elses. This diet is so low on calories and fat anyway.

Thinking about mushrooms I wonder if it is allowed to eat it on day 7 together with brown rice and some other vegetables?

Re: day 5 , so far so good!

Thnx Dibbles for answering,

I did't put any mushroom in my soup because once I've read somewhere that mushrooms are bad for digestion and I haven't explore further this fact. But today while I was reading about mushrooms I felt a desire to eat it on day 7 and now I'm looking forward for it smiley-happy

It's day 5 for me and hubby too!  I've noticed a difference, but I've only weighed once.  I'm going to repeat the diet so I'll weigh at the beginning next time.

Re: day 5 , so far so good!

Zoro I have pasted below extracts re mushrooms that I found on two different sites. I love them and they are very good for pernicious anaemia which I have! I eat some every day on this diet!

Mushrooms
Diet Nutrition
Mushrooms are a treasure trove of nutrients. They are one of the few good sources of vitamin B12 - very important for vegetarians and vegans. In addition, mushrooms are rich in potassium and phosphorous as well as protein and fiber. They are also exceptionally low in calories.
Some research shows that the phytochemicals lentinan and canthxanthin in shiitake mushrooms can help to prevent cancer.
Calories in Mushrooms:
4 oz/100g = 13 calories
One cup of sliced raw button mushrooms contains just 2.3 grams of carbohydrate, of which 0.8 gram is fiber - a usable carb count of 1.5 grams. You'll also get riboflavin and niacin, potassium, the antioxidant minerals copper and selenium, and a bit of vitamin D.

Hope this helps

Re: day 5 , so far so good!

smiley-wink yeh Sally of course it helps. I love mushrooms but becuase of the information (wrong one) I use to avoid mushrooms in all dishes.
Today few people said that are noticing change on me and it's an extra motivation for me to continue. I have at least 6 more weeks to go. I wanna lose 10 kg and God knows how long it will take. Yesterday and a day before, there was a celebration here and I didn't cheat at all. I'm considering this as a challenge and being happy for having enough strength to do it and everything thanks to everyone in this website.

Re: day 5 , so far so good!

Callie I'm sorry to play devil's advocate but why are you critisizing some poor new person for daring to admit to eating salmon when you on other posts are bragging about losing the same amount of weight even if you cheat and to me big cheat toast etc. You surely are contradicting yourself!!!!
Gosh eat the salmon all that want to on this post it's far better for you and less calories than beef which is what the diet recommends!!!

Maybe you need to read again what I wrote...

Have I told her "don't eat salmon"? I guess I haven't.
Have I told her "salmon is bad for you"? I guess I haven't.
Have I told her "the CSD police will come and get you"? I didn't.
Have I told her "you'll fail miserably if you eat salmon"? I didn't.

I ONLY offered advice ie NUTRITIONAL INFO. Geez.

Not everyone knows everything there is to know about food, that is EXACTLY why everyone around here offers advice. Where the heck to you see any form of criticism in my posts!? What you see there is nutritional info and nothing else.

As for my diet I NEVER said I was following it to a T. I'm doing it my own way and it's actually working very well.
