Hi I have been reading much of the site this afternoon to get some ideas. Even though i'm a vegan (whom everyone expects to be waif like and pale and starving) i have an unhealthy diet, and dont really exercise a lot. I used to be a size 12 (swung between 10-14 size wise for that period) and about 3 years ago went up to a size 16, and now i'm size 18. I'm 5'7" and weigh 203 pounds. (14.5 stone) so i'm just wondering whether i'll find any benefit from this diet or not, having so much weight that i need to lose, ideally 4 stone long term, but to go down a dress size for summer would be nice.
i'd also like some advice on what to do, as last night i had half a bottle of wine and a huge bag of crisps, therefore vowed to start a diet today, i'd looked into the CSD in depth a while back, and reckoned i could make soup taste fine. well, i got up this morning and decided to make soup...lol...and i didnt have any cabbage in and shops werent due to open for a while, so i have been eating celery soup most the day (2 bowls) and so have now got cabbage etc for the soup for tea tonight. so what i'm wondering is should i start day one again tomorrow (along with the soup today ive had melon and grapes and 2 orange juices) or just move onto day two regardless? i would like to follow the diet strictly as i've found it hard before setting out healthy eating plans and sticking to them, i like the idea of the CSD plus everyone on this forum seems really supportive from what i've read
anyway, im so so sorry for the essay :S

This will be a good kick start for you and it is only 7 days then you should technically have 2 weeks before doing it again or others do it as a kick start then move onto weight watchers or a less drastic diet. What you have done today I would say is fine for day 1 so onto day 2 tomorrow!
Good luck!

thank you so much
i am hoping to eat very healthy when i finish and if i see results maybe do 1 CSD week per month or so, as a cleanser
the celery soup was so nice ive finished it (the pan only holds about 3 large mugs lol) i'm actually looking forward to experimenting with cabbage tonight
how odd :p

I agree with Sally, sounds like you are good to go on with day 2! Good luck!
Offline
I agree with Sally, you'll be fine! Celery is in the soup anyway and now you'll have the actual ingrediants so I would go with it. That way you will have day 1 down. and yes this would be great or you, you don't THAT much to loose, others are right there with you. The most discouraging thing when starting any diet is the minimal weight loss, though a pound or two a week is better than nothing, I think this diet gives us the kick start we need to stay motivated.
So Good Luck!
Hey Sally- I am watching "The F Word" right now! Gordon has mellowed out! He's quite nice on this episode!

thank you for your support
had 2 mugs of cabbage soup today, nearly finished the pan (small pan
) not bad, i did put a lot of spinach in it though
just a couple more questions
i had 2 medium sized carrots for my lunch and a stick of celery (i tried making a spinach dip, but it was horrid so went in the soup pan >.<) i know carrots are high in calories, so will i have set myself back by having 2 large ones?
also i love seaweed, is seaweed allowed on the CSD? i enjoy rice free sushi, where you blend some carrots or swede with garlic and a little vinegar and in the middle a few strips of courgette or pepper (wrapped in nori sheets of course) would this be ok for the fruit and veg day 3?
and...of course i dont drink milk, nor meat. so for the milk and banana day is soya or rice milk ok? and for meat are lentils or chickpeas ok, or should i have tofu? (not on both meat days)
sorry for all the questions, i would just like to do this as best as i can (says me sat here with a black coffee...)
Offline
I'm not an expert but Soy Milk is okay as long as it's the 'light' or ff version because that's what I drink and I've read that Tofu is the best protien substitution.
You just gave me a great idea for day 7 though, Sushi using the brown rice instead of sticky rice. I've been yearning for some Wasabi lately! It's too late now because I am on day 7 and don't feel like extensive shopping.
Good luck

sorry, more questions
yesterday i was in a rush so couldnt make two meals (one for me one for my partner) so i made a veggie curry. i'm still unsure of how you can have veggies prepared, can it be just steamed or raw or doesn't it matter? my curry was simply to veggies, sweated in water to soften (instead of frying with oil) tin of tomatoes, aubergine, mushrroms, garlic, onion and half a grated carrot, cabbage, spinach and corriander. and of course herbs and spices. there was no cream/soya/cocnut milk/i didnt have rice (my other half did to fill him up, funny how he can eat and eat and be so skinny XD )
sorry again for another ramble, but was this ok?

That sounds perfect to me and a good recipe for others to try too! Thanks for that!

Well I ate all my veggie that were outside my salads steamed, it worked for me. Spices and herbs (as long as they are fresh) are perfectly fine on this diet.
The first time through you should do it exactly like the instructions call for, then after that mold it to fit your lifestyle. for instance next time i do this i am ommiting the banana day and have just a 6 day diet and on day 3 i will end up having a banana for desert or something right before bed so at least i dont leave the bananas completely out.
Keep the questions coming and dont apoligize, there no way to know for sure unless you ask right?

Yes indeedy, sounds great! It's great to get some new and interesting ideas! Aubergines huh? You must be a Brit. right? I think that's what you call our Eggplant over there! That is a much nicer name...Aubergine has a much more exotic and pleasant sound to it than eggplant! How they came up with that is beyond me, it's a plant and perhaps a little bit shaped like an egg?
Offline
hey i did this on day 6 with aubergine - I am also British! Slice the aubergine in 1/4" slices and spray some oil garlic powder, onion powder and black pepper over it. Bake it in the oven for 20mins on either sides. Then i mixed canned tomatoes with some salat.
Sorry when the aubergine is ready, layer it in a foil pan - the slices can overlap a bit.
Take 1lb of ground meat or chicken, fry it up with some diced onions and place that mixture on top of the aubergine. Place the remaining aubergine on top and the tomato sauce on top of that. Bake at 375 for 1 hour covered and then 10 mins uncovered.
I did this when entertaining guests on Day 6 of the CSD and didnt wanna cheat. And guess what - it went down a treat!!!!!!!

yup i'm a brit
with an aubergine addiction. i like griddled aubergine, aubergine in curry, casserole, stews, ratatoullie, anything really, i tend to use it as a 'meat substitute' for a lot of dishes rather than tofu etc.
cindy25, i might try that recipie with some kind of tofu product in place of the meat, as it sounds like such a lovely savoury dish
just had a banana smoothie with soy milk, not too bad, im really full now, which is a good thing

ack meat day! just off to buy some tofu. mmmm i'm not a huge fan. so apart from the 'beef' tomatoes, and soup, what else is allowed today? can i have some steamed brocolli with my tofu, or is that tomorrow only? i might make a fresh tomato sauce for the tofu today. will have to look at some recipies for tofu :S
Offline
I think you just get the protein and tomatoes and soup today, but tomorrow lots of veggies. Maybe you could do a tofu-tomato stir fry? The tofu really has no taste, it just picks up the taste of what you're cooking so spice it up and enjoy and just keep thinking how good tofu is for you! - That's what I had to do the last time I bought Tofu! lol!

i had some tofu in the soup today, it was ok... going to make a tomato sauce for tea tonight, and maybe the otherhalf have pasta with his
hahaha
also i dont have scales so i've been measuring myself. maybe not the best thing to do
i measured myself on friday (which was day 2/7):
under the bust: 35 inches
waist: 40inches
hips:44 inches
(this is a bizarre one but they are like tree trunks)each thigh: 26 inches
then i measured again just now
half an inch lost from under the bust (but might be how tight i held the tape last time) gained an inch on the waist the rest is the same
sigh
oh well
best be positive, will give it another week after this one and start with more exercise too
Offline
Measuring is a hard one. Mine haven't changed one bit and I disgust myself so I don't even want to do it again! Maybe once a month, but I don't even know if I did it right, I'm not sure where to put the tape on my hips, if I go to the fullest part, near my thighs, it's terrible and scarey, like a big pear or something! I'm thiking of buying a new scale because ours has been wacky lately. It's digital and I will weigh myself on it 6 times in a roll and get 4 pound differences! So I think I will try to stay away from it too! I'll wait until Thurs. morning and see what the little monster says!
Keep up the good work Chunkyvegan! You are almost there and doing great!!

i cheated, i had an apple
i just needed something to eat and i don't have any soup to hand, i've just run out. i feel so bad about it
Offline
Don't worry about an apple it's negative calorie anyway. I often had fruit on non fruit days that is what I call a good cheat lol! There is tomato in the soup and that is a fruit!
Now a cream cake or a chunk of bread and cheese now that would be a bad cheat!
You're doing great be proud of yourself this is a tough diet!
Offline
Oh my God! an APPLE! You Bad bad girl! JUST KIDDING! No problem mate! Like Sal said it's a negative value and in my opinion day 3 is the best anyway so I think in the future I will do day 3 for 3 or 4 days in a row! I know you will still lose a bunch of weight! What day are you on now ChunkyV? You've got to be almost done right?

i'm on day 6. thing is i polished off 6 cooked beetroots too
i'm glad i didnt have the banana, funny ive been craving them since day 4 where on day 4 i couldnt stand the things
i'm trying to decide whether to have an 'off day' between say 7 and starting day one again, i think i could do better next time, especially if i drink more water, thats my downfall, well and the lack of exercise
where i can have a treat of some bread or pasta or wine, but not all, it has to be only one thing, along with fresh fruit and veggies etc, maybe a little oil...
i feel a little better now regarding the 'cheat' i guess an apple isnt so bad, its just they are still high in sugars and well, i reckon the beetroot (in vinegar) was worse
Offline
I don't think so, what's beetroot? Is it like Beets? If so i's just a veggie and should be fine. Where do you live? If abroad, we have different names for things here in the US so a beetroot could be a cookie for all I know!
I am starting the CSD again either Thurs. or Fri. I don't trust myself to take a day off, I go overboard!
Offline

lol sorry, i think beetroot is just beets
i really am addicted to them. might be my new crisps
i'm still toying with the day off thing. i have no will power at all doing things off my own back, seriously if it werent for this forum and especially you and sally, and paragon, i think id have cracked by now. thank you so much
i really do think doing this next week will be great, although i should really buy a bigger pan, mine only holds a days worth

ok, this update was going to be about how i had no soup on days 6 and 7 and fell off the wagon yesterday. went into york for the day, and ended up having a dahl, rice and fried veg pattie. not too bad? ahhh then you add the 6 pints of lager/beer on top....mmmmmm shocking. then got home and was hungry after the pub and so had two aubergine/egg plant burgers (sliced and shallow fried with onions and mushrooms) in the evil bread. i was so peeved at myself this morning.
but this post does have a positive side. i dont have scales at home, but i had to go to the doctors today, to see about getting exercise on prescription. i had to have my bloodpressure done and weight done.
1'm 85 kilos which is about 187lbs (13.4 stone)
so ive lost about 13lbs, though to be honest i think perhaps a little of that loss can be credited tot he fact that a couple of weeks ago i did a lot of walking so as i havent weighed myself before the csd for about a month, i cant say for sure what i've lost, but im sure the CSD has helped a lot
i've decided today to start the csd again so its fruit day today, need to make another batch of soup, but i'm just going to do the first 3 days repeatedly for a week, as i onl felt like straying on the last 4 days, but i thought i can add a little protein and carbs, sparsely throughout the week instead of days dedicated to them. i hope it works like that. i will follow the csd to the leter next time i do it, in 3 weeks, but i think a variation of it will work between times.
sorry for yet another essay, i am so pleased, even with the terrible day yesterday, i can see a difference, and it largely in part to the support ive had here, to keep on going, and i will
thank you to everyone

Oh CV, 13 pounds is so great! Well done:clapping: and good for you for admitting the few little downfalls too, as we ALL have them!
I am starting today as well! So is Juianna and then Whittnie on Friday! Should we start a new post to be able to find each other? Sounds good! You have some excellent ideas for cooking your veggies and we all will be able o benefit from you I'm sure!
I'm going back to bed now! My husband goes to work very early in the morning 2:30 nd I woke up with him today. Too early for me, so back to bed and I will dream of cabbage soup the rest of the night! ha ha
