It seems there's about half a dozen people keen to get it on Monday 14th.
Last time round I didn't cut back on caffeine. This time round it's going to be BY THE BOOK. I'm going to make self-flagellating monks like the albino in Da Vinci Code look like spineless limp weaklings!
As it will be my Round 2 I don't expect to drop much off. 4 - 6 pounds will keep me happy. If I can emulate Sally22 and drop 4 pounds every time I do the diet I'll be well pleased. I'm currently at 183lb I want to hit 167lb in a few months. If Monday 21st sees me at 177ish I'll be chuffed.
So, who else is in?

I'm in for something. Not sure if it's going to be the New CSD, the regular CSD or the 3 day diet with the hot dogs. But I'm in!

Count me in!
and Stewart...you will do great because you have the advantage of being a MAN! You guys seem to loose so much more that we do. (Maybe that's just an excuse invented by women thru the years?)
I am going to continue my daily coffee because I can' stand the headache. I'm afraid if I give it up, I will give up the eating plan as well!
I was thinking of omitting the banana day but now I think there must be something to it or it wouldn't be included in every single version of this plan right Who am I to try to invent my own diet!
What are your feelings about substituting fish or poultry for the beef? Now I'm afraid to make any changes, but I guess if any of us do things a bit differently, the results will show us what worked and what didn't and we can learn from each other.

It's because we have will power (ducks flying brick)

I've descided to become a puritan of the Church of the Official CFD. The Holy scriptures say:
(Day Five) If you prefer, you can substitute broiled fish for the beef one one of the beef days (but not both).
Once I've done a round of pure, undiluted, by-the-book CSD I might try being more creative with it. But there is such a wealth of advise and experience on this board, If you try and track down the history of the CSD you probably won't find its true origins. It is first recorded being faxed around the place in the 1980s. It's been copied and copied and I doubt very much anyone really knows exactly why it is like it is. Why bananas day 4? Well again the Holy Scriptures say:
This day is supposed to lessen your desire for sweets.
but whether there is any hard, nutritional science behind that, I don't know. The only thing we can go on is all the anecdotal evidence of people claiming success.
It says you can substitute pultry for the beef but only for one of the days. Why? Who knows? I'm as sure as I can be (I'm not a doctor, nor have I played one on TV) that it would be absolutely fine, calorie-wise, to switch.
regards
Stew

What about the unsweetened cranberry juice? If you're going by the book then I guess it's imperative but it's very hard to find. It wasn't until recently that Ocean Spray came out with a "No Sugar" C.J. but it has a very high calorie content. I wonder if it's chemically neccessary or just a bonus. When the first book was written there was no such thing, it seemed all the juices on the market were laiden with sugar. I had read earlier that a few folks didn't include the juice and did fine so I haven't either. Today I can have it so I wonder if I should run out and get some?
I had done the "Cabbage Soup" years ago but never the 7 day plan on this site. But I have the book in front of me where I first got the soup recipe and it's called "ORIENTAL Seven Day Quick Weight-off DIET" by Norvell and it was published in 1975! Now the diet is different, he includes a 2 day fast and lots of brown rice, but he soup is basically the same but without the Lipton dry soup mix, and he calls it "The Reducing Soup". The negative calorie foods are also listed. Anyway the concept seems to have been around for years and seems that different people have tweaked it to fit more appropriately in their lifestyle. Gee, I used to fast back in the 70's and there is no way I could do it again!
Enough of my babble. So Monday is a go! Darn...I best go out for juice now!

I don't know if you have Trader Joe's or Whole Foods or any of those "health food" stores but that's where I got my God awful unsweetened cranberry juice. I'd rather drink water. It's still has the sugar from the cranberries it's just no "added" sugars.

I have to say I have never drunk cranberry juice on this diet! The only juice I've drunk is freshly squeezed orange juice.

Ah twilight, you can't turn me with your heresies! The only true pure CSD is the one posted on this site. Do you want to face the Inquisition? (nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition - our three main weapons are surprise, fear and a fanatacal etc etc.)
So the diet traces back to the 70s? Interesting info. I did some digging on the net when I first found this site a few weeks ago but couldn't track down the origins. I found an article on Wikipedia.
I suspect the Cranberry juice is going to be difficult to find in rural France. What's a soul to do? I ight have to go without and wonder forever what are the mystical cleansing properties of unsweetened Cranberry juice.

Yes Omgirlie we do have Trader Joes here, love it, but Idon't feel like trucking all the way over there today, maybe I will go without and see and perhaps do it next time. I do have a juicer and could buy fresh ones (frozen at this time of year) and add splenda and water and Voila! But is it really worth it? I think not, I will go without it.
Wow Sally, good idea about the Orange juice. I have an orange, and a grapefruit, lemon and lime tree in my back yard but unfortunately they don't bear fruit until around November! I am an addict to my freshly squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice every winter! It is so sweet, unlike normal store bought grapefruit, and VERY good with Vodka! Ha, he, there I go again...making you 'yearn' for libations! I'm baaaaaad!
Yea Stew, I'l go without it as well.

When it was first mentioned here in the UK, that I remember, it was the 80s and I first read about it in the Newspaper Daily Express, from a rather large gentleman who had a column. I can't stand him! I can't remember his name either but he does that annoying car insurance advert on the telly now where he says 'calm down dear' to his wife. Well he said then that it was a medical diet used on heart patients who were over weight but needed to lose weight quickly for an operation! I have since found out that was a load of rubbish though! [in fact now I'm wondering why I bothered to write this now lol!]
Wow to have fruit trees growing like that in your garden! You lucky thing!
Stewart I was in France earlier this year in Payrac, Lott for a month visiting family that live there.

See Sally here we are "dating" ourselves again! Ha! I'm talking about buying some book in the 70's and you're remember some gentleman's column in the 80's! Do you realize that most of our posting pals weren't even born yet! OUCH!

Ouch indeed! It was really bugging me his name so I googled 'calm down dear' and found out his name it is Michael Winner! Still at least if we're typing on here we're not eating!!! I'm starving! It's midnight here and I've got to get up for work in 6 hours eeeek!

Yes, I LOVE the trees! That's the first thing we did when we bought this house. We planted a Lime, Orange, Grapefruit, Lemon, Almond, and Pecan tree. My huband is a firm believer in planting something not only for it's beauty, but to get something else from it as well. When we want a cocktail with fresh lime, just step out the door and pick a dozen or so limes! When we grill fish, just walk across the back yard and grab some lemons! We used to have vegetable gardens as well but it is so hot here and it is so much work that I gave up a couple of years ago! The caterpillers and bugs kept eating our plants and it made me CRAZY! and the darn birds would take one nibble out of each and every tomato and ruin them! Maybe I will try again next year! I do want to start another herb arden though! Nothing like fresh herbs in your cooking!

Go to bed! It's 4 in the afternoon here! I just checked the temperature outside and it's 93 degrees! We are going to grill Mahi Mahi for dinner tonight! Now go to bed and we will catch you tomorrow!

I have found a cranberry juice that says no sugar added from Walmart (walmart brand, Sams club, I believe). That is what I drink on the CSD diet. Cranberry juice is not one of my favorite drinks, but I do drink it mainly to give me a "full feeling" and also I believe it helps with the urinary tract area (I hope I'm not mistating that), but anyways...something I do when I don't want to drink it staight is mix it together with my orange juice. It does taste really good. Just thought I'd add that it. Good luck everyone starting on the 14th. You've all done really well, so you'll get through another week of it. Take care.

You know Barb, you're right and I've even bought the Walmart "Light" brand before and I don't know where my mind went, of coarse they sell sugar free cranberry juice, DUH! It has Splenda in it! The thing is on the nutrition lable I think there is a "sugar" content.
Geezo Peezo, what a space case I am! Thanks Barb for the info!
I've said it once, and I'll say it again....
"OF ALL THE THINGS I'VE LOST IN LIFE... I MISS MY MIND THE MOST!!"

Isn't it always gonna have a sugar content because of the natural sugar occuring in fruit? The one I get is made just from cranberry, grape, apple concentrate, that's what boggles me is if its 100% cranberry juice (that's what it says) why is there grape and apple in it????? Oh well....
Offline
Oh yea, the 100% juice one...ever checked the calorie content? Like 140 I think for that one. The "Light" variety (both Ocean Spray AND Walmart brand) are only 25% juice I think! Well today is my day 6 and I didn't buy any so I didn't have any so I hope it still works okay!
Offline

I will not drink cranberry juice so i take a cranberry pill LOL!. It takes the gross out of the drink.
I buy apple juice for my juice. I dont like any other kind of juice. Is that an ok drink ? and as for the switching poultry or fish for beef its going to have to be switched for me because i havent had beef since my surgery because it makes me sick. Oh well. i dont think in my case it will screw with the diet.
Offline
Mine says 100% juice, I don't consider it any different than eating a piece of fruit, just adds some variety for me. Oh well, some people like it and some don't. A cranberry pill huh??? I'm not up on a lot of that. I hope it gives you the same benefits. Some things I probably would rather swallow a pill, ya know. Have a great night.
Offline

Hey barb. I beleive it gives the same benifits because what cranberry juice does is cleancs your urinary tract. and the cranberry pill has all the essentials in helping with that. It is specially designed for urinary tract health. says so right on the bottle.

Good Idea! My hubby takes them daily and we have a huge bottle! I will take one or two now! Yippie!
