Re: recipe incomplete

It says cut up and add an entire bundle of celery. You just add the soup mix while it is cooking.

Re: recipe incomplete

You know what?  I have never added the soup mix!  I keep forgetting to buy it!  I just use a couple of bouillon cubes and my own spices and cloves of fresh garlic and it's fine!  I bet if I ever remember to buy the soup mix, it will be a real treat!  I also have never used the entire bunch of celery, just about 4 stalks or so, I know it's a key ingrediant but it's not my favorite thing.

Re: recipe incomplete

I added it the first round. The second I ommitted it, but put in 8 ounces of sodium free tomatoe puree, 1 sodium free boullion, 1 can of tomatoes, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and one other spice (can't remember). Oh, and some hot sauce- about four splashes.

Re: recipe incomplete

I use the lipton's onion soup mix, a chicken boullion cube and a beef and a big thing of spicy v-8!

Re: recipe incomplete

Hey Om- I know I've said this a million times, but nest time you're shopping look for "Knorr" Chipole boullon cubes.  You like hot stuff, they are still no cal. like other bouillon (well 5 or 10?) and really kick it up a bit!  When I do that I use beef bouillon instead of chicken and a can of tomatoes (petite dice with jalopenos are pretty good) and it's really much better in my opinion.  I did it yesterday with chicken bouillon and no v-8 or canned tomatoes and the soup I usually crave hasn't been a treat, but a chore!
But that's just me...and they say that the spicy stuff bumps up the metabolism, AND gives you kind of a rush!

Re: recipe incomplete

It can get pretty hot, but I think you can take it.   Anyway I find the Cabbage soup made with a beef bouillon with the canned tomatoes is so much better.  I don't know why exactly but the stuff with the chicken that I made just seems to mush up really fast.

I've got the stuff to make another batch but for some reason not as excited as usual.  I think I need to really tweak the recipe this time.  Maybe go a whole different direction, the same key ingrediants of coarse but maybe with a Greek twist, like just all those wonderful Greek spices and I could pretend it's something totally different.   I think that's what we all need...some tips to make this diet exciting rather than boring.  What do you guys think?   If you try something new keep us all informed!  Hey, we could even get a "cabbage soup" cook book goin on!  Of coarse we'd have no takers! smiley-wacko

Re: recipe incomplete

Try making the soup with no tomatoes or V8 juice or Lipton soup mix and instead use some soy sauce, fish sauce, garlic and grated fresh ginger! Yum, bit of an Asian twist.

Re: recipe incomplete

It is like a detox for your body and some find it does make them go to the bathroom more.

When making the soup, add your veggies all cut up, avoid starchy veggies-potatos, corn, peas etc.  Some put in soup mix some omit it, some skip the tomatos some don't it is a matter of personal taste.  Use some common sense and add all the spices you want to make it good for you
