Great Tasting Soup Recipe

This recipe really works for me, it actually tastes good.

2- heads of cabbage
3- green peppers
3- green onions
1- bag of celery hearts
2- packages of Lipton Onion soup mix (one box)
2- large cans of Hunts Whole Tomatoes
Several red dry peppers. (I can't think of the name, but they come in a cellophane package.)

Spray a very large pot (8 qt.) with Olive Oil Pam. Add the peppers, onions & celery cook lightly on a low flame for about 8 minutes. Add the rest of the ingredients and cook for about 2 hours on a low flame, covered. I spray the peppers, onions & celery again with the Pam before I add the remainder of the ingredients.

The original CSD recipe did not include carrots.

Just thought I would share. smiley-clapping smiley-clapping

Re: Great Tasting Soup Recipe

Thanks much, it sounds yummy!   and you're right the original recipe did not include carrots, they do contain lots of natural sugar.  As I recall, the original recipe had lots of onions and yes, green peppers, cabbage, celery, but no V-8.  I always have put in a huge can of tomatoes because I think it goes so well with the cabbage, and I always  use beef bouillon cubes.  I usually don't even add the Lipton soup mix but when I do, it is so much better.   nancy_mrn actually submitted a recipe for how to make the onion soup mix yourself!   I haven't tried it yet but will this week!  The recipe calls for sugar and I am going to try it with Slenda or Equal rather than sugar.
Anyway Chanel, thanks for sharing!  Your recipe makes a huge batch so that's great because I eat lots of the soup and to me the worst part is having to make a new batch every othe day, so this one will last a bit longer!  Good Job!!smiley-first

Re: Great Tasting Soup Recipe

Hello Twilight smiley-smile

I agree with you, I hate making another pot of soup throughout the week. Even this huge pot of soup doesn't last me the entire week. I've started this diet at least 3 times already. I get to day three and something happens, and I cheat. I'm not giving up though, I'll never give up. smiley-biggrin My husband makes it much harder for me too. He bought this huge bag of popcorn at the Farmer's Market, and asked not once, but several times if I wanted to taste just one kernel. I CAN'T just have one kernel without wanting more. I've come to realize now that in many ways he sabotages my diet. I'm going to have to be stronger. smiley-tonguesmiley-tongue

Re: Great Tasting Soup Recipe

Yes you do, and you WILL!!  Just think though...even  2 or 3 days is  better than nothing!  and personally those days are the most vital!  I can do it for a few days, no problem, but it gets hard after that, and I want to be able to spend the weekends with my husband 'enjoying' life, not eating cabbage soup!   So whatever you CAN do is better than nothing!  So I am resolved at having the weekends off and doing the CSD during the week.  and I can't have ONE kernal either...in fact, now I want popcorn!!!smiley-huh
