i went to my local grocery store and they had lipton soup mixes but the recipe wasn't specific on what kind of soup. does anyone have any suggestions or alternatives to using the lipton soup mix?

Even with the dried onion soup mix called for in the original diet, you can expect the final product to be relatively bland. Use it anyway. I add garlic, one or two jalapeno peppers, and cilantro. Try one or two of those or use all three. No salt. The pepper gives it some bite, the cilantro makes it sort of Spanish. Cumin, chili powder and cayenne pepper in another batch gave it a kind of Mexican chili flavor. Bon appétit!

Along with the Lipton's soup mix I add a can of RoTel tomatoes that are very spicy and delicious. It comes very hot or mild and you can add as many cans as you can stand.
Hope this will add a little zip to your soup!

I use a 1/3 to a 1/2 a packet of the Lipton's to boost the flavor a bit, but it's mostly salt anyway. I add parsley and other fresh herbs, at least 3 cloves of crushed garlic, and herbes de provence. Cumin is a great suggestion for a flavor booster!

I completely forgot to add it to my 2nd batch of soup. It doesn't make a difference as long as you compensate by adding other spices, or replace the water with broth (I use veggie and mushroom.) It's probably healthier without all the extra sodium in the lipton powder anyway and would be just as effective as long as you're not adding anything with fat in it.
