This is probably my 4th time trying to soup diet and I cannot even stomach the taste of the cabbage soup anymore. I literally start gagging at the sight or smell of it. I cannot put a spoon in my mouth even when I am starving! I have tried people's advice here like blending, adding spices, but its still nasty. So my question, can the soup be substituted with something? And also If I drink A LOT more water than I normally would, would that make up the difference? Whats the purpose of the soup exactly-- what does it do? And why is it that the "more you eat the more you lose" why wouldn't that work with something else? Whats so special about the soup?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me get out of this gross situation.

Hi
I am a cabbage soup believer!!
I always use this as a kick start to healthy eating, a brilliant detox, it actually gets rid of all your crap food cravings ie chinese, mcdonalds, crisps, chocolate, because you actually start craving REAL food. I usually loose about 8 lbs in a week.
As for the soup I too can gag at just the smell, but a way in which i have sort of conquered this is eat BEFORE you are hungry, even if i have slight rumble in my belly i can guarantee i will gag.
I make the soup to the rule, cutting the veg into as small chunks as poss. then i add in my own flavourings each time i reheat a bowl. I personally like to add worcestershire sauce ( i know its probably not allowed but i figure if it helps to get the soup down its such a small cheat it dont matter, and i still loose weight!) my husband prefers to add tabasco sauce, or chilli but thats too hot for me.
As for the purpose of the soup, all the ingrediants that are added are negative which basically means it burns more calaries to eat it... FANTASTIC INCENTIVE!!
I find to keep me going without cheating or coming off totally is too think how well i have done and what a waste it would be to come this far blah blah. Try not becoming too obsessed with how much weight you have lost on a daily basis, leave it till the end of day 7. By day 3 I can usually feel the difference in my clothes, and it does slow up (i think).
Good luck, I hope it works for you and remember it is just one week, even though sometimes it feels like one year!!!

The soup adds roughage and fills you up. The diet can be done without the soup. I have simply done the 7 days. That works, but it is harder for me to stick to. I have replaced the soup with V8. Must be careful and drink only the low sodium kind if you can find it.
Don't worry about the "more you eat the more you lose" thing. The soup still has calories and if you don't buy into the whole "negative calorie" idea, that's okay too. Don't tell the CSD police I said that.
Maybe just try to eat the veggies in the soup instead. Assuming you have the discipline to stick to it, I doubt the results would be any different. Do you like steamed cabbage?
Good luck!

I solved my problem with the soup by steaming the cabbage by itself and fixing the soup without it. Cook the soup til the veggies are still firm. Then I have the soup with cabbage on the side. Then I crave the soup. It is so good. I had always hated the soup with the cabbage in it. Gets gaggy. But this worked.
