Is anybody losing weight during menopause symptoms? I started Sunday April 15th and lost 4 lbs and today gained 2 pounds - I have been loyal and NOT cheated!
Okay, maybe just a little with creamer in my coffee......

I am only 49 but due to an early hysterectomy I am smack dab in the middle of menapause according to my doctor. I just did the 7 days and lost 8 lbs. Try to stay away from the scale until the morning of the 8th day. I hid my scale so I wouldn't be tempted to jump on. I was so afraid of getting discouraged and now I'm so glad I waited!!!

I also had an early hysterectomy and I lose weight doing this diet but slowly that is more down to taking HRT than anything else!
Hope this helps

I'm not taking HRT's so maybe that's why I lost a little bit quicker. I was surpised with 8 lbs. I had figured around 5 lbs. due to my age, menopause, not working out every day etc.

Sal419 I know it's off the point and I hope you don't mind me asking but how do you cope without HRT? did you have a total hysterectomy?

Hey Sally - No problem asking. No, I just had a partial in 99. I had my blood level checked in October by my GYN as I was experiencing wicked hot flashes and night sweats. I thought I was too young for menopause, but the tests came back showing I was right in the middle. I had a long discussion with my doc and he said since I have made it this far without HRT's I may as well go the rest of the way. I have my ups and downs believe me. Some days I feel like I am losing my mind that's for sure. I am a widow so I live alone as both my kids are away at college. Maybe that's the key.......no one to hear me rant and rave like a lunatic...........LOL!!!!

Oh maybe that's why, I had a full so no ovaries my body got it suddenly which is why my doc says I need HRT. You're better off in that respect it's the HRT that has helped me to gain all my weight in the first place. Still I am down 24lbs only 10 to go now since I have been doing this flipping diet on and off since Christmas! I am getting to detest cabbage soup though lol!!!
P.S I've just had my 50th which is very depressing in itself! I was determined to not be fat at 50 which kicked started me into dieting in the first place!
Oh my family sure know me at my madest lol!
Good luck at least this diet works!

I am in mentopause. but do your know that coffee has caffine which is a toxin in your body. I think that anything with caffine would slow the progress of the diet. I have just started it but will let you know since I am a coffee freak and I have stopped for the 7 days....I am drinking green tea decaf instead and yes I am gruppy too...

I am in menopause and have restricted the amount to 1 or less cups a day of coffee and still lost over 30lbs over 6 weeks CSD.

Me too...Menopausal, on HRT, drink coffee, and did fine on the CSD. I don't think it has anything really to do with the diet but during menopause it's alot harder to get your metabolism going so sometimes we have to work a little harder. But the diet does work and I know for me, menopause was a good excuse for my weight gain, not all that valid I don't beleive, but a good excuse!

I also had a partial hysterectomy in December 1999. I never had to take HRT until 7 years ago, and I would wake up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat! So, my then Dr. put me on Premarin. Premarin got soooooooooooo expensive that I took myself off of it and I started taking Soy in the form of a 200mg pill, twice a day. I still have hot flashes, but not nearly as bad. Compared to 15+ a day 7 years ago, now it's maybe 1 a day!
When you are in menopause, your metabolism slows and you retain lots of water according to my GYN. There are foods that speed up your metabolism, like watermelon, cantaloupe, and any other fruit that is sweet, the sweet taste gives you the energy that you need to exercise, or take a walk, etc. this also jumpstarts your metabolism. You burn fat, but you are not eatting fat.
I just learned this last friday. When I learn other new things, I will let you all know.

Thanks for that information. That is probably why CSD works then for me as I eat lots of melon when I am on it! I need HRT as I have no ovaries and for years after menopause your ovaries give off hormones even after a partial Hysterectomy according to what I have been told.

I couldn't live without my HRT! They are $30-$50 a month but well worth it! I HaTE the night sweats! Also HRT prevents Osteoarthritis which am very aware of, so I have to take them, the benefits far outweigh the side effects!

That is where we are lucky only £7 [14$] every 2 months here and when I move to Wales it will be FREE as you don't even pay for the prescriptions there! I agree the benifits of it preventing osteoarthritus and brittle bones are important as I have broken a few bones in the past!

Hello. I am almost 46 - I guess in perimenopause and gained 15 pounds very quickly 4 years ago - age, I guess. I haven't been able to lose it, no matter what I did. But after 4 days on the diet I've lost 5 pounds, so I think it's quickstarted my metabolism.

Hi Carla,
The weight that you have gained so rapidly, I have told has to do with our metabolism. I also learned if I stay away from beef, and drink 64 ounces of water a day, i also loose.

I have the signs of menopause with wicked night sweats and take medication for High Blood Pressure they both started about the same time and for the past 4 years my weight gain has been huge, I am now 40 pounds heavier. I did the CSD several times last spring and summer and lost 30 pounds only to have gained it all back this winter.
Would any of you be willing to be a diet buddy with a woman is at times thinks she is going crazy and will never get this weight back off again?
Thanks
Nancy

Just post away Nancy and several of us will join in and support you! You can do it! I had exactly the same problem as you and I have lost 31lbs this year so far. CSD is a great kick start and then once you see the 1st weeks weight loss you'll have the confidence to carry on. A lot of us swap things around and try different diet plans for variety as we work through our weight loss issues! There will always be someone here to share successes with, moan to and have a laugh with along the way!
