Picture Perfect Portions

Catherine here,

If you’re out to dinner, the last thing you want to do is pull out a food scale and measure your perfect “8 ounces” of meat…

But you don’t want to overeat, which we all know leads to weight gain.

So, how do you know how much to eat?

Here are a few helpful tips!

  • 3 ounces of chicken is like a stack of playing cards
  • 1 tablespoon of salad dressing is about the size of a poker chip, or a half dollar
  • 1 ounce of chocolate is like a package of dental floss
  • 1 cup of yogurt is about the size of a baseball
  • ½ cup of ice cream is about the size of a light bulb
  • 1 cup of broccoli is about the size of a baseball
  • 1 ounce of dried fruit is like the size of a golf ball
  • 3 ounces of fish (aim for white fish) is about the size of your checkbook

Do you have any other helpful measurements?

I already started plan from monday and i prepare like soup in pressure cooker (taken cubed cabbage, 2 tomatoes and 2 piper and put in pressure cooker with 1 ltr. water and on gas 30 min For seasoning) after make i eat 2 time with some fruits. so i want to know this is right or not. Please suggest me.

    • Hi Aditya,
Yes, that is perfectly fine. As long as you have the cabbage in there you are good to go that is the main ingredient necessary.

      • thanks catherine, today is my 3rd day i fell very well but please let me know for 4th day plan i dont know waht i soya/skim milk so can i use daily home use milk.

  2. Dear Catherine today my 4th day and i’m fee very well. Your 5th & 6th day plan include some nonvege. I’m not like eat beef or meet chicken so i want to know can we replace with other substitute that easily found please suggest me.

    • Hi Lainie,
Yes you certainly can. Just be sure to take any skin off of it before cooking it.
Thanks and have a great weekend!

  3. I did it….Yippee! 7 days and 8 lbs lost! This was just the kick start I need and now I am totally motivated to drop 7 more and fit back into ALL my clothes! Thank you so much for having this diet available to me.

  4. Hi Catherine,

Thanks for your cabbage soup diet. I’m following cabbage soup 7 days diet plan. I’m about to complete day 3. i have few questions and concerns on my rest of the week meals. Can you please provide your inputs?. Below are my notes.

    1) Is it good OK to add a small amount of salt to meat( may be 1 tea spoon for one pound of meat)?

    2) On one whole day how many times i can have meat with my soup and how much meat quantity i can eat meat per meal?

    3) Can i add little sugar to skim milk?

    4) Can i use lamb instead of beef?

    Thanks,

    • Hi,
Please do not add any salt to your food! Use pepper or other spices but NO salt. On the meat days you can have 10 to 20 ounces of beef. NO to sugar!! Yes you can use lamb instead!!

      • I did the cabbage diet for a week and lost 8lbs. I was extremely happy as I don’t have a lot of weight to lose. Anyway, I HAVE to have SALT!! I used it in seasoning the potato and the meat. I don’t see how it affected me adversely since I lost 8 lbs? I’m guessing it has to do with retaining water?

        • Yes, usually salt makes you retain water so you are actually one of the lucky ones that didn’t! Congrats on your weight loss that is great!

          • Thank you Catherine. I just got back from a trip to NY and am doing the diet again starting today! I LOVE this diet. I don’t know why I haven’t tried it before now!! I know it’s been around a long time. I think I THOUGHT I didn’t like cabbage, but I LOVE it!!

  5. Hi,

I have done the diet before and it worked great. I did it again, a week after Easter and I did it with the NEW recipe…and ADDED the V8 Juice.

I have NOT lost one pound and this time I was stricter than ever. I am sure it is because of the low sodium V8 Juice.

    I’m not eating anymore soup.

    • We do not recommend it but if you can’t live without a tiny bit then it’s fine but it’s not in our plan!! We just try to stay as natural as possible.
      Thanks and good luck!!!

  6. This is my third time doing this diet! I absolutely love it! I was just wondering if there would be any problem with switching out days. For example, I would die to have some beef right now. I’m on my 3rd day! I was thinking about doing it on my 4th day instead of banana and milk which is my least favorite day. I’m not a huge fan of bananas so I would swap out that fruit for others you’ve recommended to replace it. Plus I’m not a fan of milk, but I did the low fat yogurt the last two times.

    • Hi,
That should be fine. You are not alone in disliking bananas and milk!! A lot of people repeat day 1 just to avoid day 4!!
